Question : “This book has already stirred quite a bit of conversation. What inspired you to write Hibernation, and what message were you hoping the church would hear through it?” Answer : I was inspired to write Hibernation after a dream I had after the same-sex marriage law was passed in 2016. The dream was vivid, and the oppression in the dream felt heavy and I knew this was something God wanted me to talk about. Question : “Some readers are asking whether Hibernation is pro- or anti-LGBTQ. How would you describe the heart behind your book and your personal stance as a Christian?” Answer : The book is definitely NOT pro-LGBTQ since I am a Christian author so then it would be anti-LGBTQ but not in a bashing type way. The heart behind this book is to be loving and accepting of the LGBTQ community but to not compromise or twist our faith to embrace an ideology that goes against what the Word of God says concerning marriage. Question : “The novel portrays a culture in upheaval and a church under pressure. Why do you believe this is such a critical moment for the church to find its voice?” Answer : I feel this is a really critical moment because the LBGTQ community is gaining so much ground and the church is actually becoming quieter and more muffled. With no resistance from the church, our world could look really different in 20 to 30 years where the Bible could become illegal and we lose our religious freedoms to practice our faith. Question : “In your story, we see pastors taking bold public stands. What does courage look like for believers today in real life—not just in fiction?” Answer : Courage for a believer is standing on the Word of God without compromise. We are to love everyone as that is one of the greatest commandments but we are not to conform to anything that turns us against God. Question : “If you could leave your readers with one takeaway after reading Hibernation, what would it be?” Answer : One takeaway is to live in your truth as a Christian and be bold in your faith but walk in love always. For Non-Christians it would be to be true to yourself and not be swayed by every passing ideology and to love others always.
